Mighty Oaks Tree Care may be a new name in Southwest Missouri, but tree work has been part of my life for many years.
What began with learning the trade grew into a genuine passion for climbing, caring for trees, serving homeowners, and eventually building something of our own — something my family could grow with and our community could trust.

Where My Tree Care Story Started
I got my start in professional tree care as a groundsman with Ryan Lawn & Tree while learning to climb under my father-in-law, Tim Crews, who was a branch manager at the time.
Those early years taught me much more than how to work a rope or make a pruning cut. They taught me to respect the tree, understand the responsibility that comes with working on someone else’s property, and appreciate the skill, judgment, and attention that good tree work requires.
As I learned to climb and became more involved in the work, tree care became more than a job to me.
I genuinely loved it.
From Missouri to Colorado— and Back Home Again
My family and I eventually moved to Colorado, where I continued working for larger tree-care companies and helped with cleanup work following the Waldo Canyon Fire in the Colorado Springs area.
The work could be demanding, but it reinforced what I already knew about myself. I loved being outside, working with a crew, solving difficult problems, climbing trees, and doing work that made a visible difference for people and their properties.
When my father-in-law, Tim Crews, began building Cherokee Tree Care back home in Missouri, my family and I returned so I could work alongside him and help grow the company.
I eventually led a crew there for several years. That gave me experience not only as a climber, but also in planning work, leading a team, working with customers, caring for properties, and making decisions in the field.
I Tried Leaving Tree Work. I Couldn’t Leave the Trees.
For a period of time, I stepped away from tree care and worked in the electrical trade. It gave me experience in another skilled trade, but it also made something very clear:
“I missed climbing trees.”
I missed being outside. I missed the physical and technical challenge. I missed looking at a tree, understanding what needed to be done, and then climbing into the canopy to do the work.
Most of all, I realized tree care had never been simply a job to me.
It was work I was passionate about.
Why I Started Mighty Oaks Tree Care
As ownership in the tree-care industry around me continued to change, I had to decide what kind of future I wanted for myself and my family.
I wanted something different.
I wanted the decisions affecting my work to be made here in Southwest Missouri — not by distant corporate ownership or outside investors.
I wanted to be able to stand in a homeowner’s yard, look at the tree in front of me, consider the property around it, listen to the customer’s concerns, and recommend what I genuinely believed made sense.
Sometimes that means pruning.
Sometimes a tree truly needs to be removed.
Sometimes the right answer is to leave it alone and continue watching it.
I wanted the tree, the property, and the homeowner’s actual situation to drive that recommendation. I didn’t want sales targets or outside ownership determining what that recommendation should be.
So my wife, Janelle, and I decided to build something of our own.
A Family Building Something Together
Mighty Oaks Tree Care started with our family.
Today, I work alongside my two oldest sons while my wife, Janelle, helps keep the business running behind the scenes, assists with office work, and continues homeschooling our children.
We are building Mighty Oaks Tree Care from the ground up together.
Our hope is that this becomes more than a business our family owns. We want it to become something our children can learn from, contribute to, grow with, and someday be proud to carry forward.
That means a great deal more to us than simply growing a company.
We’re building something together — for our family, for the communities we call home, and for the generations that follow.

I love trees, and I believe good tree care starts with understanding that every tree and every property is different.
At Mighty Oaks Tree Care, we believe in thoughtful pruning, preserving healthy trees whenever reasonable, giving homeowners straightforward information, and never treating removal as the automatic answer to every concern.
Proper tree work requires more than simply cutting branches. Where cuts are made, how much living canopy is removed, the condition of the tree, its structure, its surroundings, and the reason for the work all matter.
Our approach is guided by established arboricultural practices and respected educational resources, including proper pruning principles promoted by organizations such as the International Society of Arboriculture.
But caring for trees is only part of what Mighty Oaks Tree Care means to us.
The other part is caring about the people who live beneath them.
These are our communities. These are the places where our children are growing up. The homeowners who call us are not numbers on a spreadsheet — they are our neighbors.
When someone trusts us with a tree beside their home, over an area where their children play, or with an old tree that has been part of their property for decades, we understand the responsibility that comes with that trust.
Caring for Our Communities Like Family
Southwest Missouri is home.
This is where we are raising our family, building our business, and putting our name behind the work we perform.
We want customers to feel comfortable asking questions. We want estimates to be straightforward. We want people to understand what we are recommending and why.
And when there is a reasonable way to care for or preserve a tree instead of simply removing it, we believe that conversation is worth having.
Mighty Oaks Tree Care is being built one customer, one property, and one relationship at a time.
